Forecasters warn temperatures in Murcia will reach up to 41 degrees this week
The Aemet has issued warnings for the Altiplano, Northwest and Vega del Segura area

This Thursday July 16 the thermometers in the Region of Murcia will reach up to just below 40ºC/104ºF. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow temperature alert for Thursday, warning that in the Altiplano area, the northwest of the region and the Vega del Segura area, temperatures will be especially high, reaching 39ºC at around 1pm.
According to Aemet, temperatures get even higher for the weekend, reaching up to 41ºC in the capital and centre on Friday 18, as Spain enters the hottest part of the summer and the year.
It comes as the Ministry of Health has revealed that, already in 2025, heatwaves have killed 10 times as many people as they did in 2024.
In the Cartagena and Mar Menor area, as usual, the heat will be milder, but even then on Sunday 20 when it will rise slightly to 34ºC.
In the municipality of Lorca, temperatures will not exceed 38º and in the northwest of the Region, in Caravaca de la Cruz, the yellow alert will also be in force as temperatures will reach almost 40ºC this weekend.
The Meteorological Service assures that the yellow level shows a low danger risk at which “it is necessary to remain vigilant and to be informed of the current weather forecast, as people and property could suffer moderate damage due to the temperatures”.
The Ministry of Health recommends protecting yourself from the high temperatures by staying hydrated, eating light meals, avoiding going outside during the hottest hours of the day and wearing light, baggy clothing, plus a hat and sunglasses.
