Hacienda del Álamo Golf Course to get a new name amid raft of changes
The name change has not officially taken effect yet, and there is no indication of when it will happen

The Hacienda del Álamo Golf Course, situated in the municipality of Fuente Álamo de Murcia, is due to have its name changed by owners and managers UGOLF to the Santa Elena Golf Club as part of a major rebranding strategy.
The change of name for the 18-hole golf course, which was designed by Dave Thomas in 2004, comes at the same time as new properties are being built on the Hacienda del Álamo golf resort, which is one of several Murcia urbanisations on the up and up.
While the name change will only apply to the golf club and course, and not the wider residential urbanisation area, it has still divided local homeowners. Some see it as a positive for the area, helping to bring in a new broom for the golf course that will also include upgrades to the state of the course itself, while others see the rebranding as a waste of money and confusing for potential players who want to visit the course.
Representatives from UGOLF said, “It hasn’t officially changed its name yet”, but assured that when it does, there will be more information forthcoming. However, they didn’t give any indication of when that could be.
UGOLF also manages other Murcia golf courses, including Mar Menor Golf and Saurines at Las Terrazas de la Torre.
Santa Elena of Constantinople, known in English as Saint Helena, is the patron saint of the municipality of Santa Elena in Jaén, Andalucía and is also highly venerated in Murcia’s Caravaca de la Cruz.
She is known for the search for lost objects, and is also the patron saint of archaeologists, which may also go some way to explaining why she may be the perfect choice of saint for golfers who lose their balls in the bunker.
