December 7 Christmas charity fun run in La Zenia
Grab your runners and Santa suit for the Orihuela Costa walk/run in support of a local cancer charity
Zenia Boulevard is set to host its annual Santa's Walk charity fun run this Sunday December 7, with hundreds of festive fundraisers expected to don their red suits for a five-kilometre jaunt around La Zenia.
The Orihuela Costa Pink Ladies & Panthers have been organising this popular event for years now and it's become a proper fixture in the local Christmas calendar. The volunteer group spends the entire year running fundraising activities to boost cancer awareness and support those affected by the disease.
This isn't just about having a giggle in fancy dress, though there's plenty of that to go around. Every euro raised goes straight to the AACC in their ongoing battle against cancer, and walkers are also encouraged to bring along food items or hygiene products that'll be handed over to the Pink Ladies Cancer Support Group.
These volunteers spend the entire year grafting away at fundraising events and December's Santa spectacular is their big Christmas push.
The five-kilometre route winds through Zenia Boulevard itself before heading out into the surrounding town, giving participants a chance to spread some Christmas cheer beyond the shopping centre's walls.
It's a proper family affair, with kids under twelve getting free entry and everyone else paying just €5 to join in.
Sunshine FM Costa Blanca will be providing the soundtrack for the morning, spinning all the Christmas classics to get people in the festive spirit before they set off and welcome them back at the finish line.
Registration kicks off at 10am, with the actual walk starting at 11, so there's plenty of time to sort out your Santa suit and maybe grab a coffee before you head out.
Details are available on the Zenia Boulevard website, or you can pop over to the Pink Ladies & Panthers Facebook page to see what else they've got planned. Just don't forget your Santa hat!
