German tourist rescued near Benidorm after becoming lost in the mountains
Three hikers had to be saved almost simultaneously from the difficult Marina Baixa climbing spot
A 47-year-old German tourist had to be rescued near Benidorm after becoming lost in the mountains. The man, who was hiking in the Puig Campana mountain range in Finestrat, was reported missing after he became lost while descending from the peak.
The rescue operation began when the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of Alicante received a call at lunchtime about two young women in their 20s who had become stuck on a mountain ridge and were unable to find their way down. The Consortium's helicopter reached them from the Bancal Moro pass to Portell and they were safely evacuated using a triangle and sling.
As the helicopter was returning to the fire station in San Vicente del Raspeig, a new alert came in about the missing German hiker. The aircraft turned around and, after dropping the rescued women into the care of the Guardia Civil, the firefighters set out to locate the man.
The hiker was found unharmed and firefighters accompanied him to Coll del Pouet, where he met up with his wife, who had been waiting for him nearby without a mobile phone. They then descended together to Font del Molí, the usual starting and finishing point for excursions to Puig Campana. The eventful rescue operation ended shortly before 6pm, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.
