Los Alcázares to complete final phase of seafront lighting upgrade
The final 16 traditional streetlights near Paseo de la Concha will be replaced with energy-efficient LEDs to finish the town's modernization plan

Los Alcázares is getting ready to finish up the modernization of its seafront promenade by replacing the last 16 streetlights that have yet to be updated. This project is the final piece of the 'More Sustainable Mar Menor' plan, which is part of a 2022 program focused on sustainable tourism and energy efficiency. Once these last few lights are swapped out, the entire promenade will finally have a consistent, modern lighting system from end to end.
Most of this work actually happened back in 2025 when the town replaced 240 of the existing 274 streetlights. At the time, 16 units mostly around the historic Paseo de la Concha were left in place to preserve their traditional appearance. Now, this new contract will bring those remaining lights up to date so the entire coastline is uniform in style.
The work involves removing the old cast-iron lamp posts and replacing them with modern, energy-efficient LEDs. These new posts are made of sleek galvanized steel designed to handle the salty coastal air without rusting. They will be installed using the existing foundations to keep the process efficient. Before everything is officially switched on, the team will run some tests to make sure the lighting hits all the right energy standards.
Once completed, the promenade will have a cleaner look while significantly cutting down on energy use and CO2 emissions.
