San Pedro del Pinatar Today
Introduction to San Pedro del Pinatar
San Pedro del Pinatar lies in the South-easternmost corner of the region of Murcia. To the north is Alicante, to the west San Javier, to the east the Mediterranean and to the south the Mar Menor.

With a surface area of 21.7 square kilometres, and a population of around 23,000, its main economic industries focus on tourism, fishing, salt production and service industries, all geared up to service the 14 kilometres of sandy beaches and the visitors who multiply the population during the summer.
San Pedro del Pinatar's privileged location on the Mar Menor and Mediterranean coastline attracts those with an interest in sailing and watersports, providing marina mooring and sailing clubs, while the beaches and natural mud baths, the Baños de Lodo, draw those seeking safe sun, sea and sand, the Mar Menor famed for its gently sloping, sandy beaches and shallow, safe waters.

The Parque Natural de Las Salinas y Arenales is an area of dunes and salt flats, a haven for lovers of walking and cycling, with wild, rolling beaches, walkways and extensive bird life, particularly recognised for its population of flamingos.
San Pedro´s history focuses on salt production and fishing, activities evidenced by the Roman villa of La Raya as having taken place for more than 2000 years here, although development really began in the 19th century with the construction of houses such as the Palacio Barón Benifayó and the Casa del Reloj.

With a sizeable ex-pat population, San Pedro del Pinatar has an established community and offers an excellent range of activities, including covered swimming pool and sports facilities, as well as a year round programme of social activities, including the Fiestas Patronales and Marine procession of the Virgen del Carmen.

Property in San Pedro del Pinatar is distributed between the coastal and internal areas and a wide range of hotel and apartment rental accommodation is available throughout the year.
