Friday street markets in the Region of Murcia
Street markets all over the Region from Puerto Lumbreras to Calasparra
The following weekly street markets are held in the Region of Murcia on Fridays.
Markets may be cancelled or altered due to bad weather and local or regional holidays: Check with your local tourist office if making a special trip.
As a general rule the weekly markets are open from 9.00 to 14.00.
Street markets are part of the everyday shopping routine of local residents and are also particularly attractive to visitors, offering the freshest of produce at excellent prices, as well as bargain clothing and footwear and a host of other items, the diversity depending on the size of the market.
Cautionary tips
When buying fruit, choose stalls that have prices clearly marked and always ask for the receipt so you can check you've not been overcharged. Traders are obliged by law to give a receipt with a purchase, so don't be shy of asking for one if you feel the bill may not be correct. It's always advisable to check the bill and make sure that the correct price per kilo has been charged and the number of items you have corresponds to the receipt (in Spanish “ticket”).
Watch out for pickpockets, and take particular care of handbags, which can easily be lost whilst momentarily distracted. The easiest thing is to leave them at home and minimise the risk.
Take your own plastic bags to the market and recycle rather than taking new bags and consider purchasing the shopping trolley if you buy fruit and vegetables regularly as it can become hard work lugging bags of heavy veg if visiting a large market.
