November 23 El Rey Que Fue at the seafront auditorium in Aguilas
The final performance in the prestigious Paco Rabal Amateur Dramatics season the Auditorio Infanta Doña Elena in Águilas
It is the year 2023 and a former King of Spain, now abdicated, is living in exile in the Persian Gulf but misses his home country, so he throws a party at which the finest paella is served and hundreds of guests are invited.
If the plot sounds familiar, it’s probably because this play presented by Els Joglars is based on the life of former King Juan Carlos I, taking the form of a Shakespearean tragedy with ghosts of the past haunting the protagonist.
This performance marks the end of the 20th annual Paco Rabal Amateur Dramatics season and begins at 21.00 in the Auditorio Infanta Doña Elena in Águilas. Tickets are available online here for 21 and 25 euros, or alternatively at the local archaeological museum, the Casa de la Cultura and at the box office of the auditorium from 1 hour before the curtain rises.
If visiting Águilas your first port of call should be the local tourist office (click here for map, telephone 968 493285, email turismo@aguilas.es).
