June 14 Free guided tour in Spanish explaining the origins and history of La Manga and the Mar Menor This 5-kilometre walking tour in La Manga begins at the bridge of El Estacio and the channel which enables boats to pass between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean, and continues to the lighthouse, where information is given about the long history of the area. After seeing the water storage facilities which were used in the past by lighthouse-keepers and their families the route returns to the port, where it is still possible to see the home of Tomás Maestre (Sr Maestre was the man who is credited with “inventing” tourism in La Manga in the mid-20^th century).

The tour, which is conducted in Spanish, begins at 10.00 under the arches at the entrance to the Puerto Tomás Maestre, and is scheduled to last 2 hours, finishing in time for a leisurely lunch in La Manga!

Although the tour is free of charge prior registration is required online at the regional tourist board website here. The visit will go ahead only if a minimum of 10 participants is reached.

San Pedro del Pinatar Tourist Office The municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar has one principal tourist information office which is open throughout the year, and then other tourist information points which open during the peak summer months. Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean coastline, San Pedro del Pinatar has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.

Much of the tourism activity is directed into these peak months, although the Salinas natural park and health tourism hotels in San Pedro del Pinatar make this a popular destination throughout the year.
