June 12 to 28 “Pimentón” paprika specialities in a tasty tapas route in Lorca
Tasty bar snacks with a distinctly local flavour in the city of Lorca!
“Pimentón” is the typical Murcian round red pepper or paprika which is dried out and ground to make a rich, pungent red pepper, with a deep colour and a smoky flavour. It is used in many recipes and is so closely associated with Murcia that even the footballers of Real Murcia, who wear deep red shirts, are sometimes referred to as the “pimentoneros”!
On this occasion, though, it is the culinary use of pimentón which is the focus of a gastro festival in the city of Lorca, during which 15 local bars and restaurants are offering tasty snacks including this key ingredient at the price of 5 euros (including a small beer or another beverage) between 12th and 28th June.
This is the fourth time the popular event has been held and in 2026 the establishments taking part are Vinoteca El Parloteo, Las Caballerizas del Castillo de Lorca, La Alacena de Braulio, Vinoteca La Vendimia, Phelan’s Irish Pub, Cervecería Las Columnas, Restaurante Los Cazorlos, Restaurante Tebeo, Tapería Mimo’s, Restaurante La Peña, Sojo Bar, Restaurante D’Lario (La Hoya), Bar Alameda, Cervecería El Doblao and Merendero Padilla. All of the featured tapas can be seen online here and in the social network activity of Hostelor.
For over 20 years the red pepper of Murcia has enjoyed Denomination of Protected Origin status, and this event also encourages the use of the local “crespillo” (a crispy flatbread) in many of the dishes. Those trying the tapas can vote for the best through social media posts, tagging @Hostelor (@hostelorca on Instagram), and by doing so they automatically qualify for entry into a prize draw.
